7 Surprising Ways To Start Actually Liking The Way You Look (and yourself in general)

1. Self-care is a treat.

Yes, you read that right. Imagine being able to treat yourself every day. Okay, so the way this would work is.. Think of your body as a seperate entity. A seperate person if you need to. It's a part of yourself that also wants to feel good. So this way of romanticising might make it easier. I'm taking a long shower and washing myself properly? That's self-care, that's a treat. My body is gonna feel happy after this! Or when you're hungry but don't really have a specific thing in mind. Let's eat something healthy because my body would be happier and more energized that way.

2. Get used to seeing yourself

Stand in front of a mirror, look at yourself no matter how much you hate it. That's you. No it's not the bad things you're saying about yourself. It's JUST YOU. Take selfies. Let your friends take pictures of you. You're gonna look very different in all those different versions. But truth is. You're gonna hate yourself more avoiding yourself and the way you look. It's just you. I can't explain the science behind this but the more I look at myself in moments I hate the more I get used to it and eventually start seeing beauty in it.

3. Bit nsfw but so overlooked.

Spend more time naked if able to. If you're someone with body insecurities you might hide yourself away in clothing but you're hiding not facing it. Look at and feel yourself naked. It's just your body. It's not some swamp monster. I used to hide my body or suck in my stomach standing in front of a mirror. Now I don't even care if I look a little bloated. Like yay I ate well. That's great. It's better that you get used to it and if you want to change it you can do it in a better mindset. It's better than hiding and hating it.

4. Keep compliments in mind or write it down

If you have those in mind, great. Remember those. People don't take time out of their day to compliement you if they dont mean it. Why would they... But lets say you haven't got a compliment in forever. Is there something in your looks that you like even a little bit? It can be ear shape if you want to. Keep it in mind, might uplift your mood if you remember you like at least one little thing about yourself. If you hate absolutely everything? Time for therapy buddy.

5. What do you REALLY like

What do you REALLY like. Fashion wise, style wise. Try that. Okay okay maybe you don't know.. But what things you like? What colors you like? Maybe you need a new perfume? What types of smells you like? Really check in with yourself. Maybe you can use these things to have more confidence and look and feel better about yourself.

6. You're tired, sweaty

You didn't sleep well, you have a pimple, you have eyebags... Okay. Everytime you go out. Do you understand how many times you probably passed a person who was having the worst day of their life. You didn't look at them as ugly. It's just a person. Perhaps look a bit stressed. But its just a person. It's okay not to look as good as usual. I promise you're good. But if you want to romanticize looking tired some days? Just get into alternative music genres. You have no idea how hard some people worked to look as dead and lifeless as possible, I promise you there's beauty in everything haha. (This is just in a joking manner)

7. Most important

Put yourself into uncomfortable situations where you're scared you might be judged.. I used to have social anxiety so bad I would go into stores with headphones and a hood on. I would avoid all eye contact. It's all small steps. Go to the store without headphones or a hood on. Or like smile at someone random. Or get a gym membership. As a gym girl who took a damn long time to understand how exercises or machines work. Gym community wont hurt you. They all started somewhere
